Abstract

The Mahabharata is considered the fifth Veda in Indian culture, written by Maharishi Vyasa. It is often said, “What’s not in the Mahabharata is not in life.” Its narrative weaves together complex themes such as duty, morality, righteousness, and the eternal battle between good and evil. The Mahabharata serves as a moral and philosophical guide, offering timeless lessons that continue to shape the ethical fabric of Indian society. Characters like Arjuna, Krishna, Karna, and Bhishma are revered for their wisdom and embody ideas that resonate with generations.

Karna is one of the most complex and compelling characters in the Mahabharata. This research paper explores the theme of generosity in Karna’s character. Through the analysis of specific instances in the epic, it highlights Karna’s consistent acts of kindness and selflessness, even in the face of adversity. By examining the impact of his generosity on other characters and the overall narrative, this paper sheds light on Karna’s enduring legacy as a symbol of generosity and compassion in Indian mythology. Karna’s unwavering commitment to helping others and his readiness to sacrifice even his own possessions for the welfare of others earn him the title of “Danveer,” or the foremost in generosity.
